BROOKVILLE, Ind. — The Top Dogs robotic club from Brookville Elementary tied for first place at the Liberty Robotics Competition on February 4th.This was the team’s first competition and they have qualified for the State Championship Competition on February 25th at IUPUI.

The marquee season-opening event during Bank Midwest Night presents the Double Down Showdown will now be contested on Saturday, May 5.IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods and Mach-1 Sport Compacts are on the card to compete with a unique opportunity for all divisions.The winner’s payout in the respective main events will be doubled if 24 or more cars show up in a given class. Without the bonus, Modifieds will race for $600 to win, Stock Cars and SportMods for $500 to win, Hobby Stocks for $300 to win and Sport Compacts for $100. Those figures will double if at least two dozen drivers compete. Pits will open at 3 p.m. with the main gates opening at 5 p.m. Hot laps are scheduled for 7 p.m. with racing to follow.Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for students ages 13 to 18. Kids and younger get in free. Pit passes are $30 per person. All IMCA divisions will have a $10 draw fee.There will be a test and tune session for all divisions on Thursday, May 3, from 6-9 p.m. Pit passes are $20 per person and there is no fee for grandstand admission.
PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. — A gunman is on the run after a deadly double shooting near Lantana on Wednesday morning, authorities say.According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a domestic dispute in 7900 block of Overlook Road around 9 a.m. and found two women dead from apparent gunshot wounds.Neighbors say they heard at least gunshots and the identity of the victims has not been released yet.The shooter was gone when deputies arrived.

Photo courtesy: Oly Town ArtesiansThe night started out promising for the Artesians after taking a 2-0 lead behind goals by Segovia and Jordan Zimmerman, but Olympic scored the next four goals to take a 4-2 lead near the 12 minute mark of the second quarter. Goals by Gabriele Zaccagnini and Matt Stalnik tied the game at 4-4 and both teams added one more late in the half for an even 5-5 score line heading into the locker room.After the half, it was all Force. They scored six straight goals to take an 11-5 lead before JT Meyer finally stopped the bleeding with a goal midway through the fourth quarter. Segovia then collected his third goal and Brett Stallworth poked one in late, but Olympic continued to pour it on and finished with 14 goals for a six goal victory, their first of the season.The Artesians fell to 0-3-0 this season and have allowed double digit goals in each of their first three games. They return home to take on the Tacoma Stars Reserves on Saturday, December 16.
