Apples foldable device likely in 2021

first_imgSan Francisco: Apple is reportedly gearing up to launch a foldable device in two years, more likely to be an iPad than an iPhone, analysts at Swiss investment bank UBS have predicted. According to the consumer survey, more than a third of Apple customers showed interest in paying as much as $600 extra for a foldable iPhone, CNET reported on Wednesday. Rumours of a foldable iPhone have popped up on numerous occasions over the past few years. Apple has also filed for patents for a flexible display with touch sensors and portions that open and close like a book, as well as a flexible iPhone that could be folded in half and grip a person’s clothes. Earlier in 2018, the iPhone-maker had secured a patent for foldable phone that focussed on a flexible hinge and the use of a fabric for its housing. The Cupertino-based company is also expected to officially announce new iPhones, most likely at a September event. The company will launch three iPhone 11 models this year. The D43 (internal name) would replace the iPhone XS Max, the D42 (internal name) would replace the iPhone XS and the N104 (internal name) would replace the iPhone XR. The new iPhone 11 models, replacing the iPhone XS series, would have a triple rear camera setup, with all three sensors placed at the back, the report said.last_img read more

Seven states have mooted their own broadband network model Prasad

first_imgSeven states have proposed to come up with their own model to roll out broadband network proposed under Rs 72,000 crore BharatNet prorgamme, Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said on Friday. “Seven states have offered to come up with state or SPV (special purpose vehicle) run model. Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh have already been talking about it,” Prasad said after meeting with state IT ministers and principal secretaries.  Also Read – I-T issues 17-point checklist to trace unaccounted DeMO cashRepresentatives from almost all states, except Delhi and some North Eastern states, were present in the meeting to discuss new model to roll out the broadband network. Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Himachal Pradesh and West Bengal said that they will develop their own model for broadband network rollout as some expressed displeasure over the work of central public sector companies involved in National Optical Fibre Network. “Keep this fact in mind that you are creating an integrated BharatNet so that there has to be certain standard. I will appeal you give your views soon on this,” Prasad said in the meeting. Haryana said that it is exploring possibility of state-led model for the project. Government has given option to roll out broadband network as per three models — current model operated by CPSUs, SPV or state run and private sector led model — to speed up broadband network reach in the country. At present National Optical Fiber Network (NOFN) project, which aims to connect 2.5 lakh village panchayats by 2016, is being operated by SPV Bharat Broadband Network Limited and project is being executed by CPSUs BSNL, RailTel and Powergrid.  Also Read – Lanka launches ambitious tourism programme to woo Indian tourists”If state government opts for state-led model, the existing NOFN architecture will migrate to new model,” Prasad said. Andhra Pradesh Advisor for e-governance and IT J Satyanarayana said the state government expects to roll out broadband in 30 to 36 month period and provide connection with download speed of 10 megabit per second for Rs 150 per month. Committee that has worked on design of BharatNet model in place of NOFN has estimated over three fold increase in project cost to Rs 72,778 crore from about Rs 20,000 crore approved earlier.  “Under BharatNet, broadband availability will be 99.9 per cent compared to about 96 per provisioned under NOFN. This means broadband service can be down only for 9 hours in a year compared to 350 hours under NOFN,” the Department of Telecom Joint Secretary V Umashankar said. The BharatNet project proposes broadband connectivity to households under village panchayats and even to government institutions at district level. “If we are able to create 100 users at each panchayat level, then it will enhance GDP by about Rs 66,500 crore,” Umashankar said.last_img read more

Beyond Novelty Architects in Amsterdam Are 3D Printing an Entire House

first_img Free Webinar | Sept 5: Tips and Tools for Making Progress Toward Important Goals Sure, you can 3-D print key chains, belt buckles, smartphone cases and any number of other consumer goods. But why stop there? If you had a printer large enough, why not 3-D print something really awesome? Say, a house?Sound outrageous? To a group of architects in Amsterdam, it’s a vision of the future. And that future might become a reality sooner than you think.Hedwig Heinsman, an architect with the Dutch firm Dus, is heading up an experiment called Canal House. As you might imagine, the goal is to 3-D print an entire house.Heinsman and her team have created a massive 3-D printer called the Kamermaker, or “room-builder.” Essentially, it is a scaled-up version of the popular Ultimaker open-source 3-D printer, the team says. It takes the contraption about a week to print each honeycomb-like block — each weighing about 400 pounds.”We can recycle waste materials into printable materials, eliminate large transport costs and make unique and personalized architecture,” Heinsman says. “You can print buildings, and then just [tear them down], and then print them anew.” Once each block is printed, they are fitted together, sort of like Legos, then filled with a foam-like material that hardens and fastens the blocks together. Pretty neat.In a city known for its luxurious canal houses and charming gabled facades, a plastic, 3-D-printed house is sure to stand out. The construction site has already been transformed into an exhibit that’s open to the public.Could this be the future of housing construction? Turns out, the brilliant minds in Amsterdam aren’t the only ones dreaming up ways to 3-D print an entire house. A team at the University of Southern California has built a giant 3-D printer of its own — except this one comes equipped with a nozzle that spits out concrete. Its creators say it might be able to create a 2,500-square-foot home in about 24 hours. This process is called “contour crafting.” This video shows a bit more about how it works: Register Now » March 18, 2014 2 min read Attend this free webinar and learn how you can maximize efficiency while getting the most critical things done right.last_img read more
