first_imgLocalNews Agriculture benefits from Contingency Fund by: – March 17, 2011 53 Views   no discussions Share Share Sharing is caring!center_img Tweet Share Contrary to widespread criticism, the Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica continues to assist farmers by investing financially into this sector.The Ministry of Agriculture among others, received the sum of one million, seven hundred twenty-three thousand, one hundred and sixty-five dollars ($1, 723, 165) in the Supplementary Appropriation Bill for the period 2010/2011.Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Honourable Roosevelt Skerrit reported in his address at the Fifth Session of the Eight Parliament that “most of this allocation totaling one million, four hundred forty-three thousand, one hundred and sixty-five dollars ($1,443,165) was requested for increased investment in horticulture, in an effort to stimulate growth in the agricultural sector.”Wincrop also benefited from this grant as a result of widespread damage caused by Hurricane Tomas in October, 2010; “A credit facility of two hundred and eighty thousand dollars ($280,000) was given to WINCROP for that purpose.
