Whittier Declares State Of Emergency After Dock Fire

first_imgThe proclamation from the city manager says the aftermath of the fire is beyond the city’s means and has caused “extreme peril to the wellbeing of persons and property within the City of Whittier.” On July 9, the Coast Guard has suspended the search for a 49-year-old Cordova man who went missing after the explosion. According to the declaration, funds from the Whittier Small Boat Harbor reserves will need to be used to pay for the damage. The declaration of emergency expires within seven days but can be extended by the Whittier City Council.
