STAR EVENT: Craven StakesNewmarket TIME: 4.05pm TV: C4/RUKHot Snap (pictured) looked a really smart filly when winning the Nell Gwyn Stakes at Newmarket on Wednesday and emerged as a strong contender for the 1000 Guineas. At Star Sports on Wednesday night we rated her a 5/1 chance to go on to Classic glory next month. There’s just something about the Sir Henry Cecil / Tom Queally / Prince Abdullah combo that keeps us totally on our toes here at Star Sports towers. Now what was his name again? Frank something …..Whether we see an equally strong 2000 Guineas contender emerge from the Craven Stakes this afternoon is harder to gauge.Dawn Approach is very strong at the top of our betting and it will need a very striking performance to budge his price. On paper the one most likely to do it is the unbeaten Toronado who, along with Havana Gold, represent last year’s winning stable of Richard Hannon. They also represent half the field as there are disappointingly only four runners going to post. Shame really as there was £1,614 on offer for coming 5th and £810 for 6th which surely just about covers the ex’es?Toronado hasn’t done anything wrong but we’d be wary about taking too short a price. On the ratings there’s little to choose between all four and the race will surely get very tactical. Plus he has to give away weight (3lb). Throw in the fact that we don’t know for sure how well any of them have trained on and it’s trickier than it first looks. It’s about the price, when isn’t it? Tawhid looked very impressive when winning the Group 3 Horris Hill Stakes at Newbury and although this is a step-up in class he doesn’t actually have to improve that much on the weights and measures. He’s likely to be 10 times the price of Toronado and that’s just daft.STAR FORECAST(stake between 0.5 and 10 points)3 point win Tawhid(-5 points Tuesday)Agree OR disagree?
