Nation to NationPrime Minister Justin Trudeau lied to Indigenous people when he said there was no relationship more important to him than with the First Peoples of this land when he was elected in 2015, says a grand chief in Quebec.Grand Chief Serge Simon of the Kanesatake Mohawk Council said the proof is in Trudeau’s tireless support of expanding Kinder Morgan’s Trans Mountain pipeline.Earlier this week, the federal government said it will go as far as pay Kinder Morgan for any costs for construction delays and are still considering passing new laws to put the pipeline in the ground from Alberta to Burnaby, B.C.“Trudeau has said in the past his most important relationship was that with the First Nations and with this that is proving that was a lie. It’s not true,” said Simon on Nation to Nation Thursday.“It’s very alarming that the government would go that far to protect an outside interest like Kinder Morgan, a Texas-based corporation.”Watch the full episode of Nation to Nation below: Simon is a member of the Treaty Alliance Against Tar Sands Expansion, a group of 150 First Nations and Tribes across Turtle Island. The group was formed to fight pipeline projects through their territories and right now it has its sights set on Kinder Morgan. But in the end, it’s about recognition of rights said Simon.“That’s what’s at the centre of this whole thing; it’s that recognition they don’t want to give,” said Simon.Simon has seen this unfold before. He remembers when the Oka Crisis unfolded 28 years ago in summer of 1990 during the Battle of the Pines triggered by the Village of Oka’s desire to expand a golf course over Mohawk burial grounds. One person died and it’s something Simon said no one wants to see happen again. But if rights are not respected he said it’s inevitable.“If you are going to push industry concerns over First Nation concerns on our territory you are going to see a flashpoint somewhere,” he said. “I’m really hoping for my friends in B.C. that it doesn’t go that way for them.”The Trudeau government has refused to rule out using force to build Kinder Morgan’s pipeline and there has already been hundreds of arrests. It’s a project Trudeau has already approved and his government says First Nations and Metis groups were consulted beforehand. However, support for the project has dropped from 51 deals to 44 between to Kinder Morgan and Indigenous groups. Some that have supported it say they felt they didn’t have a choice. In fact, Yale First Nation signed a deal because it was so beaten down and broke from colonization and the “worst” treaty agreement in Canada. It needed Kinder Morgan’s money to keep from going into third-party management.Serge Simon, a Mohawk, should keep his nose in his own business. His community is located thousands of miles from the Kinder Morgan Expansion Project. Simon has no Aboriginal rights in either Alberta or B.C.— Ernie Crey (@Cheyom1) May 16, 2018While others like Cheam First Nation, or at least its chief Ernie Crey, say the pipeline is better than transporting the bitumen by train.Crey has been outspoken on Twitter about Simon speaking about the pipeline saying he holds no rights in Alberta or B.C. and should stay out of it.“He can say whatever he wants. It’s a debate we’ll have to have somewhere down the line whether I have that right or not,” said Simon.N2N@aptn.ca
Securing a top four slot for Manchester United this season would be a miracle according to manager Jose Mourinho.United are in seventh place in the league, eight points adrift Wednesday opponents Arsenal currently in the fourth position. The Red Devils are yet to win since November 3 having drawn their last two league games against Crystal Palace and Southampton.Speaking to Brazilian outlet RedeTV after the 2-2 draw at St Mary’s, Mourinho said: “Last year, we said that getting in 2nd place was a fantastic thing due to the qualities we had compared to the qualities of the other teams fighting for the top four.”Emphasising on his aim for the rest of the campaign, he said: “Try to win as many points as possible and try almost the miracle to end in fourth.”Maguire says United need to build on today’s win George Patchias – September 14, 2019 Harry Maguire wants his United teammates to build on the victory over Leicester City.During the summer, Harry Maguire was referred to as the ultimate…Meanwhile, Mourinho is acting like he wants to be sacked, according to Chris Sutton.According to Daily Mail, former England striker Sutton said: “Mourinho is a better watch than Man United at the moment – the team on the pitch. Mourinho does more point scoring off the pitch than his team does on it.“It’s not a happy camp. What’s going to happen in January? Can he be trusted with a pot of money in January?“I think he wants the sack.“His signings have been a disaster and he wants more money. How can they trust him with the performances the way they have been? What is good about Man United this season? And it all comes from the manager who is blaming everyone else.”
A digital publisher is using a software platform it developed to create publications on-demand similar to Time Inc.’s Mine project, but is completely digital and more targeted.Sequence Partners‘ Sequence Micro Addressable Readership Targeting system allows readers to select information from a publication’s library of content for personal delivery in either printed or e-mailed PDF format. According to Sequence founding partner Charles Benaiah, the SMART platform conversely allows publishers to align advertising to editorial and audience, and then to monetize that content.“SMART also removes wasted audience vis-à-vis advertisers from the circulation to reduce production and postage expenditures,” Benaiah told FOLIO:. “Publishers can charge premium CPMs and reduce costs to increase margin.”Sequence began developing the proprietary SMART software in May 2008 and rolled out the 1.0 version in January 2009. The firm launched the 2.0 version this fall, which is ready for third party publishing licenses. How It WorksBenaiah said SMART isn’t based on “off-the-shelf technology.” The data-driven service aligns editorial, reader interests and advertising by creating a database of keywords/names/topics that, when entered by a user (triggers the insertion of relevant advertising) Advertisers can pre-select content for which they decide their product sponsorship is most relevant. “Our development team spent 1-1/2 years building and it contains many thousands of lines of code,” he said. “The software program concurrently collects user/reader information and statistics, not least of which is a real-time feature that allows advertisers to see who has ordered content in which its ad was inserted and, based on a per-unit price of $X per user (mailed or PDF), the advertiser can know precisely how much of its allocated budget has been exhausted at any given time—much like a pre-paid calling card.”Licensees can then decide whether to continue publishing a traditional publication or switch completely to the SMART system. (Publishers using SMART can continue to produce original content.) Sequence initially launched SMART in the pharmaceutical vertical with clients including companies like Novartis and the Journal of Medicine, which transitioned to the 1.0 version of the system in early 2009. Most recently, U.S. Healthcare Communications moved its two medical journals—The American Journal of Hematology/Oncology and Oncology Nursing News—to the SMART system. According to David Meir, managing director of U.S. Healthcare Communications owner Gladstone Capital Corporation, “conventional, linear publishing is no longer the best approach for AJHO and OHN” and that its readers and advertisers “will each benefit” from SMART’s content selection and distribution capabilities.Branching Out to Other MarketsBenaiah said Sequence is in discussions with several other traditional publishers—mostly trade, although SMART also has a consumer publication application. It also has been working with non-traditional publishers like trade organizations and universities that “see SMART 2.0 as a way to enhance marketing and communications to their constituencies,” he said. “By customizing and targeting, we can vastly improve the quality and relevance of a publication for most clients. And by having advertising pre-sold and ready for insertion, as applicable, to specific individuals or linked to specific content, the books go out at a guaranteed profit.”While he declined to offer specific dollar amounts, Benaiah said larger publishers pay for and is granted a license to the SMART software, which is delivered and supported on its server. Smaller publishers have the option of turning over operations on an outsourced, turnkey basis hosted by Sequence. That revenue model, according to Benaiah, includes a profit-sharing element in addition to the licensing fee.

With its SH-AWD system, the MDX is one of the better handling midsize luxury crossovers, and for 2019 the company gives us the A-Spec treatment with a new front fascia and side skirts, 20-inch wheels, wider exhaust tips, unique gauges, a new steering wheel, carbon fiber trim and various Alcantara interior touches. However, both the standard and A-Spec models get a 3.5-liter V6 engine, rated for 290 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque going through a nine-speed automatic transmission. The Acura MDX is made in East Liberty, Ohio. Car Industry Enlarge ImageThe underlying alleged defect is wildly different from the problem that created the Takata scandal, but it could still impact crash safety nevertheless. Caspar Benson/Getty Images The mess of the Takata airbag-inflator scandal is still fresh in the automotive industry, but the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has opened an investigation into a different airbag supplier, covering millions of parts across six different automakers.NHTSA announced this week that it has expanded an investigation into potentially defective airbags. The parts come from the supplier TRW, now known as ZF-TRW. There are 12.3 million such parts installed in cars with model years ranging from 2010 and 2019. Right now, these parts are installed in vehicles from Fiat Chrysler, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mitsubishi and Toyota. The regulatory body has not produced a full list of affected vehicles at this time. The potential issue stems from the supplier’s airbag control unit, which crunches sensor data to determine whether or not to deploy a vehicle’s airbags in the event of a crash. The control units, as NHTSA writes in its report, “may suffer electrical overstress due to harmful signals produced by the crash event.” In layman’s terms, this defect may cause the airbags to not deploy when they should.NHTSA’s report points out that Fiat Chrysler, Hyundai and Kia have all issued prior recalls for vehicles with this specific part. NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation also found two front crash events involving Toyota products with these parts. Thus, the agency has expanded its investigation to include not only the supplier, but also any manufacturer that has made use of the potentially faulty parts.Investigations are the first step in a process that could turn into a recall. If NHTSA finds that there is a serious problem that could affect vehicle and passenger safety, then it can compel suppliers and automakers to recall vehicles with the flawed parts. Chevrolet CorvetteMoving up from the 10th-place slot last year is the 2019 Chevrolet Corvette. While we’ve all been ogling the new mid-engine Corvette, it’s easy to forget what a performance bargain the current-generation ‘Vette is. From the base trim to the Grand Sport to the bonkers ZR1, the Corvette is an American icon.My preference is for the Grand Sport, which strikes a perfect balance between everyday drivability and canyon-carving performance. The 6.2-liter V8 puts out 460 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque. You can get it with a seven-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission, but the kicker is the borrowed chassis and aero parts from the beefier Z06. Like I said, perfect balance. The Corvette is made in Bowling Green, Kentucky. 2019 Honda Odyssey offers plenty of room and features for families 81 Photos 2019 Acura MDX adds new features and an A-Spec model Tags 18 Photos Honda OdysseyThe feature-rich Honda Odyssey minivan also retains its number-two slot from last year’s list. The Cabin Watch video system lets parents keep an eye on their little darlings without turning around in their seats, while Cabin Talk amplifies their voice so no yelling is required. The Odyssey is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 rated for 280 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles,Enlarge ImageIt’s all in a day’s work for the Jeep Cherokee, the most American-made car in 2019. Jeep With high trade tensions looming and increasing talk of tariffs, more and more consumers are looking to buy American. Cars.com has released its annual American Made Index, showcasing companies that use the most American-sourced parts and labor in their vehicles. The results may surprise you.Cars.com analyzed more than 100 US-built vehicles for five key data points: manufacturing location, parts sourcing, US employment, engine sourcing and transmission sourcing. You might think something like the Ford F-150 would top the list, but it drops from its No. 5 spot for 2018 and out of the top 10 completely. Even the first-place holder, the Jeep Cherokee, is a pretty global product. It’s a Jeep, sure, but that brand is part of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, an Italian-owned business.Cars.com surveyed 1,000 people and found that half are concerned about automotive import tariffs, with 41% saying they are unsure if tariffs would make them more likely to buy American. Either way, we’re big fans of all the vehicles on this list. These days, buying American doesn’t necessarily mean sticking with a US-based automaker. 49 Photos Jeep CherokeeKeeping its top-of-the-list placement, the Jeep Cherokee is 2019’s most American-made car.
